At the time of its establishment, NATO had 12 official members, which were added to the number of member countries over time. The political geography of the countries around Iran have always had an important impact on the national security of the Islamic Republic. During different periods, many alliances and military pacts have been formed in the geographical spaces around Iran. The importance of Iran in terms of geopolitics has caused any type of military-security agreement to affect Iran's relations with other countries. One of the important international treaties that has been formed in the geographical environment surrounding Iran in the last 60 years is the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO). It was expected that with the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact, the NATO organization would also weaken and be abandoned. But with the efforts of the United States, not only this did not happen, but the field of NATO's missions and its scope of influence has been expanded. The change in the past missions of NATO and the creation of territorial and geographical scope to play a greater role in the North Atlantic Treaty, was the response of the US government to keep NATO in the path of the future plans of the United States at the global level, especially in the Caucasus region and Southeast Asia. سازمان پیمان آتلانتیک شمالی (ناتو)، اتحادی متشکل از 29 کشور از آمریکای شمالی و اروپاست که بعد از امضاء پیمان آتلانتیک شمالی در 4 آوریل 1949 بین ده کشور اروپایی، کانادا و آمریکا با هدف دفاع جمعی در واشنگتن پایه‌گذاری شد و مقر آن شهر بروکسل پایتخت بلژیک است. ناتو در زمان تأسیس، 12 عضو رسمی داشت که به ‌مرور زمان به تعداد کشورهای عضو اضافه شد. جغرافیای سیاسی کشورهای پیرامون ایران، همیشه تأثیر مهمی بر امنیت ملی جمهوری اسلامی داشته‌اند. در طول دوره‌های مختلف، بسیاری از ائتلاف‌ها و پیمان‌های نظامی در فضاهای جغرافیایی اطراف ایران شکل ‌گرفته است. اهمیت ایران از نظر ژئوپلیتیک، موجب شده تا هر نوع پیمان نظامی-امنیتی، بر روابط ایران با سایر کشورها تأثیرگذار باشد. یکی از پیمان‌های مهم جهانی که در محیط جغرافیایی پیرامونی ایران ظرف 60 سال گذشته شکل‌گرفته، پیمان آتلانتیک شمالی (ناتو) است. انتظار می‌رفت که با انحلال پیمان ورشو، سازمان ناتو نیز رو به ضعف نهاده و درنهایت کنار گذاشته شود ولی با تلاش‌های ایالات‌متحده، نه‌تنها چنین اتفاقی نیفتاد بلکه حوزه مأموریت‌های ناتو و دامنه نفوذ آن گسترش ‌یافته است. تغییر در مأموریت‌های گذشته ناتو و ایجاد وسعت سرزمینی و جغرافیایی برای ایفای نقش بیشتر پیمان آتلانتیک شمالی، پاسخ دولت آمریکا برای حفظ ناتو در مسیر برنامه‌های آتی ایالات‌متحده در سطح جهان به‌‌خصوص منطقه قفقاز و آسیای جنوب شرقی بوده است. /downloadfilepdf/1474951
